In 2002, Cheryl Schneider was out of shape and always seemed to have an excuse not to work out. After having her third child, she decided to change her outlook on fitness and overhaul her body and health at the same time. Instead of dwelling on how much she dreaded working out, she began focusing on how great she felt afterward. She lost over 100 pounds and discovered a passion for fitness, finding inspiration particularly in group workouts.
Schneider’s studio, No More Excuses, offers only group fitness classes, including boot camp, spin, Zumba, yoga, and kickboxing/MMA. In addition to simply being more fun and friendly than running on a treadmill or getting trapped underneath a barbell, group classes encourage both accountability and support. The thriving gym now employs several certified instructors and has received several mentions in the press from outlets such as the Edmonton Sun and Global News, and Schneider was named a 2013 Global Woman of Vision by Global Edmonton.
