Great Thai food is hard to find, something the Edmonton Journal’s restaurant reviewer knows all too well. After nearly a year of searching for a great local Thai spot, he was ready to give up. That is, until he visited Syphay Restaurant. Opened by Sye and Phay Sayaphet in 2004, the eatery crafts authentic Thai and Lao fare, including specialties such as pad thai and panang curry. However, it was the the gang dang, a traditional red curry, and pad kee talay, a seafood stir-fry, that impressed the newspaper writer. “Nothing, except perhaps a vacation, could have reminded me more of my nearly forgotten love of Thai food than Syphay.”
