The main event at the Edmonton International Athletics Festival—Canada’s largest track and field meet in 2012—the Donovan Bailey Invitational gives spectators a sneak peek into the London summer Olympics by rounding up some of the globe’s fastest athletes. The jam-packed schedule of men and women’s races includes an appearance by Priscilla Lopes-Schliep in the 100-metre hurdles, the very event that snagged her a bronze medal and medal-shaped tan lines in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake will showcase the hasty gait that earned him his current title as the youngest 100-metre world champ in history. All of the participating athletes channel the fleet feet of the invitational’s namesake, Donovan Bailey, who abandoned a lucrative career in finance for sprinting, which culminated in two Olympic medals and two world records, among other accolades.
