Wild Blue Yonder plunges rafters into the rapids of the Sulphur and Smoky Rivers, led by a staff of professional rafting guides donning shirts with “Crazy river staff” written on them. The Sulphur River trip serves as a thrilling introduction to rafting, traversing class II and III rapids on the narrow river as it winds through the sheer walls of Sulphur Canyon. Rafters spend 60 minutes dodging rocks, two- to three-foot waves, and vacationing sea otter before entering a recuperative stretch on the Smoky River. The trip is appropriate for ages as young as 8 years old, depending on water levels—buyers should call ahead to inquire.

The Pirates of the Smoky River enlivens the Smoky River trip with a pirate theme, appropriate for kids as young as 4 years old. Paddle dunkers suit up as pirates, hoist a Jolly Roger, and follow a treasure map as they navigate beginner-level currents, mild swells, and occasional one-foot waves in the class I and II rapids. The scenario is complete with pirates going rogue, sea biscuits, and informational brochures about scurvy prevention. Participants also get to keep their pirate garb and their share of the booty.

Wild Blue Yonder supplies rafting gear, including thermal wet suits, personal flotation devices, high-impact Pro-tec helmets, and neoprene socks, as well as transportation to the rivers from its booking location. Participants must bring specified supplies, such as swimsuits and shoes with good grip that can get wet.
